The Ribble Valley 10k was held on Monday 27th December, bringing a close to the 2021 Road Championship. Although inevitably there are points and a trophy awarded to the winners, ultimately racing is about pushing yourself regardless of ability to see what you’re capable of; it’s great to see people out representing the club and hopefully everyone enjoyed the races. In total, 78 different Harriers scored points in what was a reduced championship given the restrictions that were in place earlier in the year. The largest turnout at a single event was 40 at the Club 5; the largest at a non-club event was 15 at the Shepley 10k.
In the end the men’s championship was a close-run thing, with just seven points separating the winner and the runner up. Bob’s excellent run at Ribble Valley meant that he clinched the title however, with an impressive 178 points accumulated across 10 races.

Huge congratulations to Bob and Nicky on their victories, and thanks to everyone that turned out and represented the club on the road this year!
Looking forward, the fixtures for 2022 have been announced and can be found on the Road Championship page along with information on the new scoring system and an additional age-graded winner. Details of all races will be announced before each event, and will also be pinned to the board in the clubhouse. Please do consider getting involved; it’s a great way to enjoy racing with your teammates, and I would strongly encourage all members – regardless of age or ability – to consider donning the amber vest and taking part.
Happy New Year!
