Welcome to the HHAC Triathlon Section

Find out about our triathlon specific training.

Welcome to the Triathlon section of Holmfirth Harriers. This section started in 2005 and has steadily grown since.

We now have five British Triathlon qualified coaches.

Organise two Junior events as part of the Yorkshire Region race series.

We have a number of athletes competing, with many representing Great Britain at Elite, Under 23, Junior and Age Group level.

If running is just not enough for you, we may be the answer!

John
Triathlon Coordinator

We are a diverse group of triathletes aged from 8 years to 50+.

We organise a Junior Duathlon and Triathlon as part of the Yorkshire Region Junior events series which are organised for the benefit of children from the age of 8 to 17.

Some of our Juniors have now grown up to become very competitive in the Under 23s and University level events. Many parents have also become personally involved in the sport, competing at all levels from local pool-based events to International Ironman Events. We also have several athletes who have represented Great Britain in their age groups.

You can find many of the triathletes at the club training sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Neiley (look out for runners whose shoes have elastic laces). If you like an earlier session there is a coached track session at Leeds Road, 5pm on a Tuesday.

Many triathletes are also affiliated to Holmfirth Cycling Club for group cycle training, however in the Spring we organise some run /bike and transition training sessions at the Brooksbank School cycle track.

Swimming is provided by Kirklees Active Leisure with both dedicated Triathlon sessions and general Swimfit sessions available at many sites. Go to the Aquatics timetables at http://www.kal.org.uk, to find appropriate sessions.

So what is a TRIATHLON?

Tri meaning three is a good clue. There are three disciplines in triathlon SWIMMING, CYCLING AND RUNNING, all done following each other with no gaps only TRANSITION – the fourth discipline.

Transition is where you leave your swimming cap, goggles and wet suit (if it has been an open water swim) and where you get your bike, helmet, sunglasses, cycling shoes and number plus whatever else you need i.e. socks, t-shirt etc and off you go on your cycling bit.  After that, it’s back to transition to leave your bike, helmet, cycling shoes etc and put on your running shoes ready for the last bit – the run!!

That’s it in a nutshell – but there is really so much more. It really is GREAT FUN!!

Want to know more?

Contact any of the coaches and they will be happy to point you in the right direction. Or you can email our Triathlon Coordinator John Levick. There are many races over the year for all abilities and ages. The triathlon family is very friendly and you will be made welcome at all events.

How do I become a Holmfirth Harriers Triathlon member?

That’s simple, already a member of Holmfirth Harriers? Then you are automatically a member of HH Triathlon! To join Holmfirth Harriers and take full advantage of the club, facilities and training, please visit the About us and find more details on how to join and fees.

How do I train to become a triathlete?

At Holmfirth Harriers we meet on a Tuesday and Thursday for running training. Depending on your ability there is a group you can run with and help you improve.

Out of season many of our triathletes are very active with their running and take part in Cross Country and Fell races. These are open to juniors and adults and provide great opportunities to build your strength and speed, allowing you to hit the next season in great shape!

Swimming sessions are with Kirklees Active Leisure (KAL) at a number of their sites.  Many cyclists join up with Holmfirth Cycling Club to get their group cycling in.  During the spring we hold run/bike transition training.
