Fell Section December 2021 Update

Evening everyone – hope you’ve all had a great Christmas so far – I can just feel the chocolate clinging to my waistline….!

If you’re looking to burn off some of those calories, then just a reminder that this Friday (31st), it’s the Wormstones race in Glossop – a Des Gibbons festive production, which is a great little race, guaranteed to blow away the cobwebs. There will be entry on the day, but you can save yourselves a couple of quid if you pre-enter – here’s the link:

Hopefully, you’ll have all seen on the website that next year’s championship races have now been published – as ever, a mix of old & new, tough & not-quite-so-tough, but plenty for everyone to go at. First up is the Stanbury Splash race over at Haworth on Sunday 16th January – a good Medium race to start the season & not too technical, so a great opportunity for any newbies to try out their fell shoes!

Then it’s the Winter Half Tour of Bradwell on Saturday 12th February, which we’ve not had in the champs before, but looks like a decent Long race in the Dark Peak & will be a good marker for anyone with any long-distance goals this year. Pre-entry is open (there might be entry on the day) & it’s cheaper if you enter before 1st January – here’s the link to the race page:

And then it’s our own Ian Roberts Memorial race on Sunday 20th March, from Marsden Cricket Club as usual. Please make sure it’s in your diary, as I’ll be needing help as ever from those not planning on racing!

Finally, a couple of other local(ish) races in the next few weeks include:

Bilberry Fields (Todmorden) – Wednesday 29th December

Hoofstones (Todmorden) – Saturday 22nd January

Hope to see a few of you at Wormstones on Friday – happy to pick up anyone on my way through – just give me a shout.

Cheers,

Phil
