Training

Club Nights - Tuesday and Thursday

There are 4 main groups that go out for training runs on Holmfirth Harriers training nights from Neiley Pavilion on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. In the winter these take place on surrounding roads and all runners must wear fluorescent vests. Many runners also wear head torches and flashing red lights to see potholes and make themselves more visible. When wearing head torches please cover with your hand or turn down when approaching pedestrians or traffic coming towards you on your side of the road. Powerful torches can dazzle those approaching.

In summer these groups run off road on the many footpaths, bridleways and tracks that criss-cross our beautiful valleys.

Most nights the Jackals and Wolves groups split down into two subgroups, a faster and slower group.

In addition to the main groups there are also speed training groups, speed and stamina groups and sprint training groups available.

More details of groups below. Actual running speed during training runs depends on terrain, weather and who is in the group so is difficult to define and there is overlap between the groups so for instance many Jackals could run in the slower Wolves group and similarly some Tigers are capable of running with Jackals. Movement between the groups is always possible depending on your fitness level and how hard a run you want.

Times quoted for 10K are on a flat course (not training run speed)

All groups have regrouping points every mile or so and no one gets left behind.
