Zero to Hero: Celebrating Our New Runners!

Thursday, February 20th, was a day of celebration for Holmfirth Harriers’ latest Zero to Hero graduates! Over the past six weeks, a group of determined beginners and returning runners have steadily built their confidence, fitness, and love for running—culminating in their fantastic achievement of completing a full 5K!

Led by Jon Burdon and an incredible team of club volunteers, the course started in the New Year, with sessions carefully designed to ease runners into the sport safely and enjoyably. Despite a brief delay due to icy conditions, the group made steady progress—beginning with short runs between lamp posts and gradually increasing their distance while sticking to the 10% rule for injury prevention. Most importantly, every step of the way was about building confidence and having fun.

The transformation has been inspiring. Some participants have gone from never running before to completing their first 5K, while others have gained the confidence to go for a run on their own or even take on weekend fun runs! Our brilliant coaching team of Phil, Phil, Andy, Gary, Joe, Bob, Di, James, Michael, and Alastair have loved seeing the group progress—and we couldn’t be prouder of their achievements!
