Road Secretary’s Report – November 2023

2023 Road Championship

There have been two races in the Road Champs since the last report, the club-run Holmfirth 10k and the Oldham Half.  As expected, the 10k saw the largest Harrier turnout for any of the championship races with 32 Harriers taking part.  There was quite a tussle between Tim Street and Philip Hinchcliffe for first Harrier home, with Tim taking it by 9 seconds. Paul Sammonds was 3rd Harrier.  First lady harrier was Helena Croft followed by Joanne Jones and Amy Sanderson.  Full Harriers placings are shown below .

The Oldham Half took place on Sunday 29th October with seven harriers travelling over the hill.  Gary Putnam was first Harrier home in 1:36:15 and first lady was Stef Dickinson in 1:58:03.

Other races

Back in September, 3 Harriers made the trip eastwards for the Humber Coast Half Marathon with all three coming in under 90 minutes.

Holmfirth was represented on the international stage on 8 October when Matthew Rose travelled the 3834 miles to Chicago to take part in another World Series Marathon which he completed in a new PB – well done Matthew

The eagle eyed will have noticed that this was Naomi’s 2nd marathon within a week.  Fantastic achievement.

The Manchester Half saw 3 amber vests take part and finally the Leeds Abbey Dash attracted five Harriers for a swift run round the city.

15th October was a busy day in the race calendar with the Yorkshire Marathon also taking place.  We had 6 Harriers take on the 26.2 miles with Tim Brook being first home in 2:44:23.  This time was good enough for Tim to also qualify for an England Masters Vest.

An excellent run by Tim in Germany (he’s been busy !) and Richard’s 2nd fastest Half in Coventry although as he points out, he was still out-paced by a giant disco ball!   Well run to both of them.

Mike Hall continues to fly the flag for Holmfirth and his latest exploits are:

24 September 2023 Greenway 10k

08 October 2023 Rochdale 10k
