Road Secretary’s Report – October 2025

Welcome to the October Road report.  A busy month this one so lets go firstly to the Road Championships.

There were two races again this month, the Vale of York Half and the Wistow 10k over in Selby.

Vale of York was popular for Harriers being known as a fast course with some great PB potential.  And that showed with the results.  Great running by everyone and look at those PBs.

In the Men’s championships only Mike has completed the requisite six races to qualify for the title(s) and both Helena and Keren have completed six in the ladies’.  There is time for that to change.  The full results and all the races in the championship are on the website https://www.holmfirthharriers.com/championship/road-championship/  and a brief reminder is shown below.  The next races are the Accrington 10k and the Oldham Half on 26 October.

If there is a tie for 1st/2nd/3rd place, the number of races entered will be taken into consideration.  If there is still a tie then the age graded scores will be used.

Summer monthly 5k series

The summer 5k series reached its conclusion this month (final results here https://www.holmfirthharriers.com/results/2025-monthly-summer-5k-handicap-final-results/) with 29 runners taking part in the final race.  Fastest this month was Johnny Maclean in 19:35.  Prizes go to:

  • Anthony Waring and Tom Heap for completing all six races
  • Ben Jarvis – fastest man in 17:42
  • Katie Walshaw – fastest lady in 19:15
  • John Dickinson – most improved time over the series (8min and 5s)

Thank you to everyone that took part this year and congratulations to our winners.  We had some great running this year and many people improved their times from April to September.  Lets do it all again in 2026.

And so to the Road Relays

Two sets of Road Relays this month.  Firstly, the Northerns on 20th September.  We fielded two men’s and two ladies teams for this event which pits the best clubs from the North of England against each other.  Those that took part have described the weather as “rain of biblical proportions” with the course being less of a road run and more trail/cross country with narrow overgrown paths and little room for overtaking, particularly on the two-way stretches.  The Men’s A team came 49th out of 112 teams, a very creditable performance.  Unfortunately one of the B team runners was mis-directed by a marshal meaning that he did not complete his loop and the team were disqualified.

The ladies A team finished 20th out of 82 teams and the B team 49th.

The YVAA Road Relays were also this month, held at Wyke Sports Village in Bradford.  Holmfirth entered a team in all the age groups (male and female) and came away with a plethora of prizes.  Although no specific trophies are given for individual performance, we also had the three fastest ladies overall on the day, being Katie, Helen and Joanne.  Congratulations to all those runners and team that came away with shields and/or medals.
