Road Secretary’s Report – June 2025

Welcome to the summer!  Lots of good weather since the last report and lots of good road racing too.  Firstly, the Road Championships.

2025 Road Championships

There were two races again this month, one short and one long.  The Leeds Half and the Northallerton 10k (the Bradford 10k on 1st June will be in the next report).

Well done to all Harriers that travelled to these and in particular to Darren for being 1st V60 at Northallerton.  Sometimes it pays to go up an age category just before a race !

Mike Hall continues to lead the men’s championship and Keren Pearson, the ladies’.

The race was won by Ben Jarvis in 27:09 and fastest Lady was Helena Croft in 32:45.  Fastest novice (person pre-entered without enough form for a handicap) was Annie Garside in 40:54.

The handicap prize and Tony Mellor Memorial Cup went to Darren Hanson with a time 01:25 below handicap.  Second was Hannah Austin in a close fought race with 01:24 below handicap and third was Chris Beadle with 01:06 below handicap.

Summer monthly 5k series

Second race of the year, and the second record breaking run of the year !  You may recall that Ben Kellett set a new course record last month of 18:17.  This was smashed on Tuesday 13 May by

Results are on the web site here https://www.holmfirthharriers.com/results/2025-monthly-summer-5k-handicap-race-2-results-race-3-start-times/ where you can also find start times for race three on Tuesday 17th June.

The Joe Percy Invitational 10k

We heard earlier this month that the local road relay 10k, The Joe Percy, has been cancelled this year.  This is disappointing and we hope that Longwood Harriers (the organising club) can put it on in 2026.

Well done to all who completed these long races and in particular a mention to both Leighton and Dave taking part in their first marathon.  Dave was particularly unlucky as a fellow runner cut across him at about mile 20, stepping on his foot and causing Dave to fall badly.  Against medical advice, Dave walk/hobbled (his words) to complete the race.    They’ll be other races Dave….

Staying north of the border, the Rose family took part in the Hairy Haggis Relay over the marathon course.
