Three Winners at Castle Howard Triathlon
On Saturday and Sunday 24/25 July 2021, members of Holmfirth Harriers AC were in action at the Castle Howard Triathlon.
Lucy Byram returning from an operation to correct an injury opted for the Sprint distance on Saturday, a 750m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run. Lucy had a great return to racing finishing 1st female and 2nd overall in 1.14.20, a tremendous result. She is looking forward to taking on the longer distance of 70.3 later in August.
On Sunday the sun shone brightly again making conditions for the longer distances quite challenging. Helen Haigh and husband Jason took part in the Middle Distance Triathlon comprising a 1900m swim, 90km cycle and 21km run. This was Helen’s first ever triathlon and she looked a little nervous at the start, but despite not much training after injury and surgery she did amazingly well finishing 50th overall in 5.38.18, 5th female and 2nd V40. Jason Haigh struggled in the heat but finished 74th male and 11th V50 in 6.02.33.
Professional triathlete Mark Buckingham having won the Masters Race at the Ilkley Cycle Races on Friday night defended the Standard Distance Triathlon (1500m swim, 40km cycle, 10.5km run) title he won in 2019, with a winning time in 2.09.25. Erica Byram had another superb performance winning in 2.26.35 and finishing 7th overall. Ben Humphries finished 63rd 13th V40 in 2.59.57 and Gavin Baxter 70th 10th V50 in 3.01.14.
