Penistone Hill Fell Race

Penistone Hill Fell Race – 16th January 2022

This was my first race of the year and it was a nice 6½ miles off road with around 150 runners. It should have been in November, but due to bad weather, was postponed. There were 7 Harriers that took part and all completed the course.

The course started off just behind Tesco’s and was on the fields for a good while with a little bit of road and then onto the first hill. I took the pace quite steady, looking to pick off one runner at a time. I decided that I would walk up the first hill.

After the hill came a field with lots of mud, clay pigeon shooting and plenty of cows. The cows were all running in the same field that we were running down, which made it a little interesting. Once out of the field it was a climb back to the top of the hill, which did take it out of my legs to be fair.

Still, reached the top and with Harriers in front, started to run a little harder to gain some ground. It was a return to the start and it felt good to stretch the legs.

I was very happy to complete it in just under 56min.

A big shout out to Ruby who crossed the line in 16th place and was the 1st female.
