Parlauf Heats – 24th June 2025 (Final – Tuesday 1st July 2025 @ 7.45pm)

Come along and cheer the finalists as pairs race it out to win the Parlauf cup.

The event has an identical format to the heats:

Run laps of the marked out grass circuit, passing the baton between the cones according to marshal instructions.

That’s it! You keep going until a whistle.

  1. First whistle – you are still allowed to change baton.
  2. Second whistle – whoever has the baton MUST keep running.
  3. Final whistle. STOP!

Parlauf Heat Tuesday 24th of June 2025

Comments such as ‘What a marvellous event’, ‘I am glad I entered it was great fun’ and ‘I enjoyed partnering my new little friend who put so much effort in’ were some of the very positive comments at the end of the Parlauf Heats on Tuesday 24th of June.

The Parlaufs are an excellent club event and the only one where the whole club not matter what age or ability can take part together.

With plenty of athletes both young, not so young and somewhere in the middle taking part it provided 4 very exciting heats.

As the pairs were announced in the clubhouse the first two out showed what The Parlaufs was all about with 6ft 3in Paddy Needham being paired with 3ft 6in Dorothy Jones.

With lots of seniors grasping the nettle and taking part there were many pairs of a similar mix and as can be seen from the results many of these pairing are represented in the final.

38 pairs took part in the 4 heats with the first two in each heat qualifying along with two pairs who went the furthest but did not qualify automatically.

The qualifying pairs are:

Heat one road side:

Adam Sunderland and James Frame + Patrick Needham and Dorothy Jones.

Heat two road side:

Jacob Hoyle and Bob Dickinson + Michael Sanderson and Florence Turner.

Heat one wood side:

Tom Heap and Otis Huscroft. + Helena Croft and Alfie Boyd

Heat two wood side:

Leighton Moxon and Ernie Mayes + Rob Savin and Ralf Rowlands.

Two who went furthest

Katie Walsh’s and Bonnie Whipp + Chris Beadle and Violet King.

The biggest thank you must go out to Roger Bradley who, although being under the weather, struggled on and got the two courses laid out with the help of Noah Evans one of the junior athletes.

Also a big thank you to Kevin Dessoy for helping with registration, John Buckingham for briefing the teams and being timekeeper and man with the whistle and to all those who help with the lap recording.

The final is next Tuesday the 1st of July towards the end of normal training at 7:45pm so everyone can finish early to watch and cheer the pairs on.

Anyone not able to take part on the 1st of July please contact John McFadzean
