Neiley Junior School X-Country Races

NEILEY RACES RETURN IN 2022

There is some good news with regard to the Neiley Junior School X-country races that have been suspended due to Covid for the past two years after 30 years without a break.

It has been decided that this very popular series of races WILL go ahead this year, with the races taking place on the traditional Wednesday afternoons starting at 4:30pm.

The three dates are Wednesday 4th, 11th and 25th of May with Wednesday 8th of June acting as the reserve date.

Paul Burk, who carries out the imense task of collating all entries, results etc will be sending out invitations to all the Junior and Middle Schools who participated previously.

As those who know this is a very large event, with over 1,000 young children entering the last time they were held, and over 3,000 people attending on each of the race days.

To enable the event to run smoothly we require a lot of volunteer helpers.

I would appreciate offers of help from anyone who can assist during the afternoon, be it helping to set up the course, record finishing times and places, marshalling the start, the course and finish, selling sweets or being a results runner plus the important task of manning the car park to ensure safety and correct parking to utilise all the space.

If you are able just to assist at all even for just an hour it would be greatly apprecaited and if you let me know I can allocate tasks.

Also if anyone knows of anyone who would be willing to be a sponsor for the race please let me know as we do not charge for this race and try to cover the costs via this means.
