Michael Brook

We are sad to announce that former member, Michael Brook, died on 22nd October aged 91.

Micheal joined the club in 1977, in his 40s, and at the same time as his wife June and brother (the artist) Peter.  He was an outstanding runner for his age and was a regular competitor for Holmfirth Harriers in our club and local races, and continued running into his 80s, although not competitively.  Micheal and June’s son, Nick, was also a member in the mid 1980s.

Even though marathons were not his forte, he completed the Longwood Chippendale Marathon in 2:57 in April 1980. His achievements and times in races would put him high in our vet rankings today; completing the Club 5 in 27:02 when he was almost 50 and 57:23 for the Club 10 in the same year. He ran 90:41 in the Holmfirth 15 mile race two years later which would put him top in our recorded o/50 rankings.

Michael was a University lecturer at Bretton College.

The funeral will take place at 11.15 a.m. on Thursday 9th November at Huddersfield crematorium. Our thoughts are with Michael’s wife, June, and family.
