Lucy Byram claims victory at Marbella Ironman

More than 1,500 athletes from over 60 different countries descended upon Marbella to participate in Ironman 70.3 on Sunday 19th September, with Holmfirth’s very own Lucy Byram taking first place in the women’s competition.

The first leg of the competition – a 1900m swim in 20°C water – began at 8am with a rolling start as the sun rose in Puerto Banús. Lucy led out of the water and never looked back, being first out of T1 on the bike for the 90km road race from Puerto Banús to Cártama.

Having overcome the challenge of the hilly cycling route, Lucy then continued to the third and final hurdle of the day: a two lap 21km run along the Marbella promenade and around Puerto Banús. Droves of supporters flanked the route on what was a very warm day, with temperatures reaching 30°C.

Lucy finished in a time of 4:50:08, which was enough to claim first lady and 15th overall. She is now all set for her next 70.3 race in Salou on 3rd October. Good luck Lucy!
