Fell Section October Update

In: News

Evening everyone – just a quick update on all things fell for you!

Big thanks to everyone that turned out over the last few weeks for the fell relays (Calderdale, Hodgson Brothers & British/FRA’s) – we had 48 at Calderdale, 16 at the Hodgson & 24 at the British (after a little juggling)! Special mentions to the ever-presents: Aaron K, Gav B, Jim D, the Beadle, Shelley, Helen H, Helena, Phil M, plus some bloke who drive the bus! Some great results as well, with the Ladies victorious at Calderdale, joined on the podium by the Ale Stars, who were 2nd Vets team, whilst at the Hodgson, we took home the 3rd Mixed team prize. Date for your 2022 diaries – the British/FRA’s are being held in Scotland, to be hosted by Carnethy (who won the Mens Open event on Saturday), so we’ll look to make a weekend of it if we can – should be around 15/16th October – keep it free!

Unfortunately, the organiser of this weekend’s Kings Tree race has had to cancel, as he was unable to obtain the necessary permissions from Yorkshire Water to use the Langsett car park. This has rather put paid to this year’s mini-championship, as there aren’t really any suitable Long races left in the calendar that don’t clash with either races already in the champs or the WYXC weekends! Ho, hum – time to start planning next year’s races instead. There is still one race left in the original champs, which is the Litton Birks Loop on Sunday 14th November – one of Jean & Andy’s favourite races, so they’ll definitely be going! Get yourselves along to a lovely part of the world – entries now open:

Rob will want me to remind you that the YVAA Fell Championships are once again being held at the Cop Hill race on Sunday 7th November. This is a great race for those who haven’t raced much off-road, as it’s not too technical, so get over to Meltham & let’s see if we can take home some YVAA prizes:

Other local(ish) races coming up in the next few weeks that are worth heading over to:

24th October – Great Whernside, here we go again! (Kettlewell)

30th October – Race You to the Summit (Littleborough)

6th November – Shepherds Skyline (Todmorden)

Jean is also rounding up troops for the Lee Mill Relays on Sunday 28th November, so if you fancy an off-road 10k as part of a team, then let her know by email or the web form on our Lee Mills page.

Hope to see you down at the club or on a hillside sometime soon!

Cheers,

Phil
