The Holmfirth Vets Race or YVAA Multi-terrain Grand Prix from Honley, to give it it’s full name is one of a series of multi-terrain events put on by the Yorkshire Veterans Athletics Association (YVAA).
This is a multi-terrain race of about 6 miles and will be attended by clubs from all over Yorkshire with runners of all abilities from 35 to 75+. This year it is on Sunday 22nd May and goes through Cliff Wood and then by road, fields, woods and tracks to Thurstonland before heading across field to Farnley Tyas. This is about half way and the end of the climbs. From here it is almost all down hill back to Neiley to finish on the field.
Depending on the conditions underfoot anything from studded fell shoes to road shoes could be worn but most runners use trail shoes with a good grip.
Like all events put on by the club we could not hold them without massive support from members to help on the day as marshals and numerous other positions. Please help if you can if a request goes out. It is your chance to put something back into the club.
Facilities: Parking at Holmfirth Harriers Clubhouse and on Gynn Lane. Please follow directions of marshals. Car share if possible.
Changing rooms and showers, toilet facilities and light refreshments after the race. Start just outside Clubhouse.
Just under 10k, nearly all off road. Are you 35 or older? You’re a vet. Come along!
Rob K, Vets Secretary
Registration for the year takes place on line via the YVAA website www.yvaa.org and in 2022 entry will also be via the website. Entry on the day will still be possible (if the race limit is not reached by the time online entries close) but a £2 surcharge will be payable. Your race number lasts for the whole series so you must hang onto it after each race. Each runner wears their 5 year age category on their back so knowing who is just in front adds spice to the racing!
Although we do not yet know if costs to hold races will have risen since 2019 the cost of entry to each race will remain just £5 and for this you get to race and have a chance of one of about 40 age group prizes given out at each race plus spot prizes for those that do not win an age group prize.
