A free one-day navigation course for Holmfirth Harriers members covering map, compass and practical navigation skills. Suitable for beginners or anyone wanting more confidence in the hills.

• Distance estimation (timing and pacing)
• Catch points and stop points
• Compass types and use
• Taking bearings
• Walking/running on bearings
• Navigation in poor visibility
• Attack points
• Aiming off
• Relocation techniques
• Navigation technology overview

Required:
• Packed lunch and drink (kitchen available for brews)
• Pen or pencil
• Clothing suitable for short outdoor activities/jogging (including wet weather)
• Sit mat if preferred

• Silva-type compass (limited spares available)
• Mobile phone
• OS Explorer Map 288 – Bradford & Huddersfield (limited spare maps available)
