An off-road social run held each Boxing Day for all runners - senior and junior - of all abilities as well as their families. The distance is up to 10 miles, but with lots of turn back points allowing for shorter runs.
HQ: Neiley
Start Time: Meet from 9:00 for a 9.30 start
Cost: Free
Distance: From 3 to 10 miles.
Terrain: Over the usual footpaths used on our summer runs but with added mud!
This year's Boxing Day Run has a theme: "Benches With a View". Each turnback will be at a different bench across the valley, with a group photograph being taken at each one. The run is open to all members - whether junior or senior - and families are welcome to come along and join in on what is a relaxed and friendly run suitable for all abilities. This year the distances range from 3.6 miles to 9.5 miles, so you can run as far as you like!
The clubhouse will be open at 9:00, giving each runner chance to obtain a raffle ticket when they arrive. The run will then start at 9:30. Studded shoes are advisable given the wet conditions underfoot, and all runners should wear clothing appropriate for the weather forecast.
The route can be viewed below; click on the image for an interactive version:
The four benches which are also serving as turnback points are located as follows:
Turnback 1: Occupation Lane, Thurstonland (3.6 mi)
Turnback 2: Ludhill Lane, Hall Ing (5.4 mi)
Turnback 3: Cliffe Lane, Farnley Tyas (7.7 mi)
Turnback 4: Victoria Tower, Castle Hill (9.5 mi)
The clubhouse will again be open after the run for anyone who wishes to shower and/or change. The raffle will then be drawn at the Foresters Arms in Honley afterwards, where all runners are encouraged to join us for drinks as well as pie and peas (the latter of which is free of charge; not the drinks though unfortunately!). Quiz sheets will also be given out, with a prize being awarded to the winner.
We hope you can join us for what will be a fun and relaxed social event!
Just turn up at the time shown above. Registration is not needed.
