On the morning of Sunday 29th May in the rather cold and damp conditions of the early start to the event, 4 Harriers braved the conditions to take on the Epic Man Windermere Triathlon.
There were two events the standard and the middle distance both taking in the challenging hilly bike course and likewise hilly and off road run course.
First off in the choppy waters of Windermere was Lewis Byram in the middle distance event of 1900m swim 90k bike and 21k run at 7am. Followed by the Jonny McLean and Jason and Helen Haigh in the standard distance at 8am over 1500m swim 40k bike and 10k run.

Lewis was first out of the water after the 1900m swim having a 5 minute lead to the next competitor. The weather improved whilst they were out on the bike but it would have taken them some time to warm up themselves. Jonny was also first out of the water and was also first back after a superb bike leg, with a good lead ahead of the next man. With Jason and Helen not too far behind all were safe back onto the run course.
Helen and Lewis
The two lap challenging run for the standard and 4 lap for the middle distance was great for spectators but probably not so for the athletes. But cheered on by the supporters Jonny had a great pace to keep the chasing athletes at bay and come home in 1st place in a time of 2:21:14 with over a minute to 2nd place. Jason finished 10th overall in a time of 2:40:59 and Helen 2nd place lady in an amazing time of 2:44:30. Lewis finished off his 4 laps and with the fastest swim, second fastest bike and fastest run was the winner ahead of the next athlete by 16 minutes in a time of 4:32:43.
