Denis Stitt Fell Race 2025 Race Report

In perfect running conditions, 60 runners set off on this short, but tough, two lap course. 37 of the 60 runners were from the local clubs, Holmfirth and Meltham, so it was no surprise when they took most of the team prizes. Holmfirth taking the 3 men’s team prizes as well as the First Ladies team. Meltham took the Second Ladies with Denby Dale taking the final spot.

The race winner, Lawrence Furse from Marsden Racers, took an early lead and wasn’t really challenged throughout, winning by a clear 30 seconds.

Holmfirth’s Ben Kellett and Tim Street were second and third, backed up by Patrick Needham in fourth to easily win the team prize.

For the ladies, Holmfirth’s club President, Helen Haigh, was first home in a fine seventh place.

Along with Amy Sanderson, sixteenth, and Helen Ilsley, nineteenth, they bagged the team prize.

Adam Sunderland, in sixth place, took the prize for first Holmfirth vet.

We had an abundance of prizes this year, and after all the individual, age category and team prizes were taken, there was enough left over for most who stayed for the presentation to take something home.

As usual, thanks to all the volunteers on the night, without whom there wouldn’t be a race.

Cartworth Moor Cricket Club who do a great job of hosting us, and of course, the runners.

Hope you all enjoyed it and that you come back next year, when hopefully someone else will be in charge.
