Challenge Riccione 2022

The triathlon season is underway, and Lucy Byram headed out to her third race of the season in Riccione, Italy, on the 1st of May 2022.  The race a Challenge 70.3 which is a middle distance race 1.9km swim, 92km bike and 21.1km run.  The pro ladies set off in the warm early morning of slightly overcast skies and calm sea to commence their 1.9km swim.  The GB triathletes dominated the lead out on the swim with India Lee out of the water first closely followed by Rosie Weston, Lucy and Emma Pallant.  There was a long run between the swim exist and the bike transition but all four ladies were out onto the bike course together.  Emma Pallant immediately went to the front with Lucy and India close behind.  Emma kept here lead throughout the bike and Lucy and India kept changing 2nd and 3rd positions.  However, they kept Emma in their sights and all came into T2 together with more than 5 minutes to the next athlete.  Emma pulled away on the run showing here pedigree finishing first in a time of 3:56:30.  Lucy and India kept on the pressure and on the last lap Lucy managed to drop India to secure 2nd position in a time of 4:04:59 ahead of Italian Martha Bernardi who ran through to claim the final podium position in a time of 4:05:22.  This is Lucy’s first podium position following 6th at Challenge Salou in April and 8th place at Ironman Dubai in March.

Also in Europe Lewis raced Challenge Lisbon in Portugal, on the 7th of May 2022.  Again over the middle distance with the open water swim taking place within the harbour walls.  The early start on the warm morning saw the men exit the water in just over 24 minutes with super quick transitions Lewis existed T1 in a group of 4 athletes.  On the bike the group worked well together and 3 of the four made in into T2 together.  The conditions were getting hotter as the run progressed over the 21.1km 4 lap course.  With Lewis and two Portuguese athletes with him he managed to keep strong in the tough conditions and finished a great 2nd in 3:54:31 just a minute behind the winner.  This Follows his 2nd place at Challenge Salou back on the 8th of April.
