Congratulations to Lucy Byram at the British Middle Distance Championships in Aberfeldy at the weekend. This is a 70.3 distance 1.9k swim, 90k bike and a 21k run. It was Lucy’s first triathlon at this distance and just her second of the year after winning the sprint at Castle Howard last month.
Lucy was in the first wave of swimmers and was 2nd lady out of the water in 27:05 but was first onto the bike course after a speedy transition.
The conditions were cloudy and drizzle on this challenging bike course but showing her great condition Lucy pulled away more time on the chasing ladies and finished the bike leg in 2:39:50. With minutes lead going out onto the run Lucy kept here pace only dropping a few seconds on her pace but finishing over two minutes in front of the next lady.
Lucy won in a time of 4:31:04 and took the GB title. Second place was Olivia Matthews in a time of 4:33:28 followed in third by Hannah Lord in 4:33:53. Lucy is now looking forward to the next event in Marbella next month.
