Race Date: Sunday 1st May 2022
After the glorious sunshine yesterday the skorts (not in Andys case of course!!) were ready and the sun cream packed, so wasn’t expecting the fog on the drive over to Alderley Edge and wondering whether or not to wear a waterproof.
None of us were expecting great results and just made today about enjoyment. The gun went and off we went. They had pacers and I sat myself in between the 52:30 – 55 :00, telling myself if I finish between these I will be happy as my training has all been about distance and stamina rather than speed.
The Clarke’s soon began to pull away and the undulating bypass is challenging but spacious making it enjoyable as not much jostling to be done and can soon get into a nice stride.
It’s an out and back course and music ranging from the rock choir to a bunch of lads playing fabulous dancy upbeat music makes the km soon rack up.
None of us went off too quick and by 8km the realisation that PBs could happen started to creep in. The final rise done, then it’s less than 1km and you can see the finish and hear the announcer spurring the legs on .
Debs and Andy romped hom , then in came me and I have to say I cried because I didn’t think I would/could achieve a PB today. Last but by no means least was Nicky who in true Harriers style was roared across the line by the 3 of us. Nicky also got a PB, which is awesome as it’s her 3rd run post covid19.
All four of us achieved PBs and not just by a few seconds. The medal was a traffic cone so we had to pose with one too!!
Great morning out.
