Parlauf Finals 2024

The Parlauf Finals of 2024 took place on Tuesday the 10th of September 2024.

The eight pairs who qualified for the final lined up with a large crowd of supporters there to cheer them on.

A big thank you to Bridget Coomber who stepped in at the last minute as a replacement for Hannah Austin who had been taken ill.

As the whistle was blown to start the race Archie Hall, a previous winner when he was a junior in 2013 took the lead with his partner William Turner.

Joey McLaughlin and Johnny Saeki were the first to set off in pursuit of them with the rest of the pack closely bunched,

As the race was reaching half way Oliver Glover and Quinn Favager start to emerge as serious challengers and moved past Joey and Johnny and started to cut into Archie and William’s lead.

As the race reached the final two minutes Helena Croft and Arthur Gibbs moved into third as their stamina came into play but were not quite able to get in touch with the leading to two pairs.

The race lead changed hands several times between the Archie / William combination and the pair of Oliver / Quinn.

As the first whistle signalled a minute to go Oliver was just slightly ahead of Archie who followed close on his shoulder until the last 30 seconds when he put in a decisive burst to pass Oliver and pull away to secure victory.

Oliver remained comfortable in second with Helena and Arthur taking third place.

It was an excellent final well contested by all eight pairs and with the many helpers and spectators making it a big success.

Thanks to Roger Bradley and Phil Senior for setting the course out.

The presentation was made to the winning pair by John McFadzean.
