Fun in Athletics for 6 to 13 year olds
The first of two Fun in Athletics 3 day camps during the summer school holidays took place from Tuesday 23rd of July to Thursday 25th of July.
The sun finally shone and the three days were blessed with mainly fine, dry sunny weather enabling all the events to take place outside on Neiley Playing Field.
A total of 67 children took part over the three days, with almost 40 attending on all three days.
The children received coaching and instruction in a number of running, throwing and jumping events, a total of 10 over the three days.
Each day saw them being coached in the morning and timed and measured on those events after lunch with the emphasis however being on enjoyment.
Each child received a T Shirt or memento for attending and those in attendance on the last day received either a gold, silver or bronze medal after their performances were scored against an age related chart.
The young athletes really enjoyed themselves with some who had only booked for one or two days extending their attendance to all three.
A big thank you to the young leaders and junior coaches from Harriers for assisting over the three days and to Russ Kaye for his expertise in coaching and mentoring the youngsters.
The second camp runs from Wednesday the 21st of August to Friday the 23rd of August.
