The 2025 Past Members Memorial Club 5 road race was held on 20 May 2025 on a new route starting and finishing in River Holme View in Brockholes. Whilst the new course still ran on main roads, the revised start and finish was designed to alleviate the problems of the mass start crossing the major road near the club and the congregation on the pavement outside the club at the finish. It had the added advantage of allowing a short warm up and cool down run before and after the main event.
The race started at 19:00 with 35 runners taking part. The new route, to New Mill then up the hill to Springwood Road before the second half descent back to the start was welcomed by runners on the day and in subsequent messages to the organiser. One person said “it was a nice feeling running past the speed camera knowing you were nearly back and not having to run down the road to the club which we do, week in, week out”.
The race was won by Ben Jarvis in 27:09 and fastest Lady was Helena Croft in 32:45. Fastest novice (person pre-entered without enough form for a handicap) was Annie Garside in 40:54.
The handicap prize and Tony Mellor Memorial Cup went to Darren Hanson with a time 01:25 below handicap. Second was Hannah Austin in a close fought race with 01:24 below handicap and third was Chris Beadle with 01:06 below handicap.
