On Sunday 7th November, on a blustery but mild and dry day, the Cop Hill Fell Race incorporating the YVAA Fell Championships took place from the Meltham sports complex. The strong winds had dried out the course so underfoot conditions were generally good. Sixteen Harriers took part in the two lap race that climbs Cop Hill twice before returning to the finish via the same track that was used at the start. Strong contingents were also seen from Slaithwaite Striders and Steel City Striders.
A number of Holmfirth harriers came away with both open prizes and also YVAA Trophies. Helen Haigh, Fran Whitworth and jean Shotter all taking 1st place in their age categories and Elaine Stewart 2nd place. Amongst the men David Milton, David Williams and Neil Midgley took 1st places, James Durrans 2nd and Kevin Yewlett 3rd.
