Holmfirth Harriers win Regional Awards

At the recent England Athletics; Yorkshire & Humberside Regional Awards Ceremony held in Pontefract Holmfirth Harriers was the only club to win more than one award.

Craig Sheard was recognised for the hard work he puts in at the club and the amount of volunteering he does and received the Young Volunteer of the Year Award.

He not only competes for the club, her coaches with the sprint group on a weekly basis and also assists with the athletics summer camps.

In addition, Craig has taken over the mantle as the team captain for the North of England Track & Field Men’s Team, is the track and field secretary and has recently joined the committee.

The Saturday Club on a Saturday Morning which started as a one-off before the 2012 Olympics and is going stronger than ever was recognised as the Innovation Project of the Year.

This was for the way it introduces the young children to athletics in a smaller friendly environment prior to the majority joining the main club and they take children from 6 years old.

In addition John, Russ and Richard also use the club to give the teenage athletes an insight into coaching and to develop the skills required.
