The Yorkshire Track and Field championships were held in Cudworth at the weekend and Holmfirth Harriers were represented by 11 athletes and had 9 podium performances! George Orton took home a gold in the U20 men's 110m hurdles getting a new personal best and setting himself up nicely for the English Schools this summer. George also got 2 silver medals in the long jump and triple jump.

Our female hurdler Lauren Jayne Storr did her first championships in three years and got a well deserved 3rd place with a respectable time for early in the season.

Ruby Sykes recorded her best time yet for the senior 1500m which earned her the silver medal and in her preferable event of the 800m she got the silver too. In the U20 category, Ruby's sister Olivia Sykes got a bronze in the 1500m.

In the U20 men's middle distance Lavell Pierre and Niall O'connell both ran their spikes off; with Lavel running his fastest 1500 in 3 years and Niall getting a new personal best. In the final they reversed their Northern league placings finishing 6th and 8th respectively.

Alex Robinson who was back to his usual U20 3K distance compared to the senior 5K he did in Blackpool proved once again that he is in top form this year setting himself another personal best and taking home the bronze medal. In the senior 5000m Steve Green showed that he's still got it putting in a fantastic time and finishing 11th in the final. His son Kristian; who previously has mainly raced cross country and on the road, was our youngest competitor and won the U13 boys 800m comfortably, in a super time of 2:22.45. He's going to be one to watch.

Our only other junior athlete was Lydia Throssel who competed in the U15 100, 200 and 300m and in a large competitive field she ran strongly in her heats and managed a new PB in the 300m. Sophie Spencer who has been doing her training down in Bristol while she's in university proved that she is training hard and ran a fantastic 400m heat progressing her way into the senior final and finsihing 6th amongst a very rapid field.

WELL DONE TO ALL OF YOU FOR GETTING OUT THERE, REPRESENTING OUR CLUB AND DOING US ALL PROUD!
