First Northern Track and Field league in Blackpool

The first Northern Track and Field league was a great sucess yesterday with our team topping the table by over 20 points. It was freezing and very windy in Blackpool but Naomi Claire still managed to pull a couple of PBs out of the bag in the shot putt and 400hurdles, a club record also I believe. Another PB was achieved by young Daisy Mae Smith in the Javelin and in the men's event her big brother Robert also got a PB.

Jo Bailey-Taylor made a comback to the track after a 25 year break where she got two PBs in the Hammer and PoleVault and ran a fantastic 200m getting a time which would have got her to the National final for her age if she is brave enough to enter! Tony Shepherd recorded some great distances in the throwing events. After being roped into competing for us only 2 weeks before hand he is now hooked.

As expected Olivia Sykes ran excellently and it's great to have her back on the track after a couple of years out due to injuries. Erica Byram and Lucy Byram and Ted Chamberlain made their debut for the senior team this year and all ran superbly, which means the internal competition for team places will be hotting up this year. Lucy improved her 3000m personal best by over 30seconds with her 10:52.8 performance.

In the men's 5km both Dave Watson and Alex Robinson raced well and Alex knocked his PB down to 16:08.9.

Big respect is given to Philip Hewitt and Daniel Shaw who had done a big warm up for their steeplechase only to be told it would be cancelled but then it was rescheduled for the end of the meeting when they had to get themselves prepared to race again and still both managed to put in great performances.

Of course all of our other seasoned competitors put in great performances with many wins recorded in A+B events.

Thanks to all the great official and not so official officiators who officiated on the day meaning we got maximum points for your help too.
