Club places for the Virgin London Marathon

Category: Road Published Date Hits: 1516

The club places for the 2016 Virgin London Marathon have been allocated for this year.  To give plenty of opportunity for members to obtain a place, below is the necessary information for entry and the selection process used by the management committee that you might find useful in the event you require a club place.  If any criteria changes, information will be shared as soon as possible and at the latest, when the available places are announced and expressions of interest invited around October/November.

You can enter the Virgin London Marathon in various ways including charity, ballot entry, Good for age and Championship places.  In addition to these, athletics clubs associated with British Athletics can apply for club entries; the number of entries given is based on the number of first claim members over 18.

The club doesn’t know how many places it will receive until we apply, which is after the ballot results have been declared in October.  As soon as we know how many places have been given a notice is added to the website, declared and the club and members are encouraged to apply.

Rejected from the ballot?

Over 247,000 UK residents applied in the ballot in 2015, many of them received a rejection letter/email.  It can be very disappointing, especially when you had your heart set on it - the first criteria for a club place at Holmfirth is this rejection letter/email so please hang onto it.

Selection criteria

When you complete the application for a club place, there's always the possibility that there will be more applicants than places available; in this situation in addition to the ballot rejection the club's Management Committee will consider the following criteria:

Who makes the decision?

Your application is discussed at the Management Committee who endeavour to award entries on a fair and equitable basis using the above criteria.

Successful applicants

If selected for a place you will be contacted by a club official who will advise what to do next. This would normally involve you being supplied with a link/reference for application on the official marathon website, before the published deadline which this year is 22 January 2016.

What the club expects

Successful applicants will be expected to put in the necessary training and will be supported by the club in this regard.  Successful applicants must wear their club vest at the marathon.
