Right on our doorstep, and part of the 2015 Road Championships - without good reason why would you not be at the start line of this very local, community 10K run?
A pleasant morning, albeit starting with a bit of fog - arriving at Netherthong, I arrived around 10:20 just as the young ones were finishng their races. It was great to hear their informal coversations, "I was first boy and you were first girl weren't you?" - it seems they'd had a great race and to follow was the seniors 10K road race.

A few Harriers were present at registration - it was enter on the day at at £9 - a bargain! The numbers seemed quite low this year and with that, there was no congestion at the start! After a brief announcement, the countdown was given and we were off. The course is a mix of challenging ups and very rewarding downs and starts with a gentle climb along Moor Lane before a sharp left towards Wolfestone Heights. Once at the peak you get the opportunity to enjoy a short drop before another climb up Wolfestone Road followed by a very rewarding run down Wilshaw Mill Road. The race continues like this, challenging ups and rewarding downs - that's until you get towards the end of the race - heading onto Dean Brook and the lens of Flaming Photography - it's a tough climb towards the finish before the final turn onto School Street, and a 50m sprint to the finish where every runner was rewarded their medal.
Heidi 2nd F40 and Julie 2nd F45
Many clubs put on a very good show; for Holmfirth we had 13 Harriers compete - many were happy with their performances and for me, as part of her month of 5K's per day it was great to see Julie Haigh get a 10K PB - especially on such an undulating course.
Times and age category wins were as follows: 15. Chris Beadle 41:47, 23. Brandon Holroyd 45:40 (1 M40), 32. Ian Goulding 47:16, 33. Sean Doyle 47:19, 38. Matthew Rose 48:36, 55. Jason Haigh 52:53, 58. Heidi King 53:42 2rd F40), 61. Claire Ash 54:36 1st F50), 65. Michael hall 56:26, 69. Isabella Ash 58:28, 68. Julie Haigh 58:18 2nd F45), 74. Richard Whale 59:16, 77. Jane Stirling 60:35.
The race winner was Peter Hoyle of Longwood in 36:16 with Bridget Coomber of Denby Dale taking the ladies title for another year in 42:55.
Year after year the organisers go out of their way to make this a successful event. As always, there was an abundance of refreshments, support and positivity. Combined with good organisation, affordable entry and excellent marshalling - it was another succesfull event.
Well done to all Holmfirth Harriers that took part!
