Brass Monkey Half Marathon 22 Jan 2012

brass-monkey-2012Strong blustery winds provided a stiff challenge for the 1671 runners who took on the Brass Monkey half marathon which was staged at the York Knavesmire on Sunday 22nd January 2012

The conditions caused some of the 27 Holmfirth Harriers taking part a few problems but other managed to push through the wind and a number of impressive personal best times were set on this fast flat 13.1 mile course.

Three of our club's runners managed to finish in the top 10 with Matthew Pierson crossing the finishing runner up overall in 1:11:12, Performance of the day for many was Richard Smith in 5th Place in 1:12:34 also setting the national lead time for the year at U23 level. Dave Turnbull admitted to having a tough day in the conditions in finishing 6th place in 1:12:57, but his contribution was vital as the lads efforts at the front of the field brought home the male team prize for Holmfirth.

Not to be outdone our ladies also brought home first prize in the Ladies event beating strong completion from Wallsend Harriers. First home for the Harriers was Claire Leaver in 9th 1:27:46, next was Jacqui Khoueiry 13th in 1:29:55 and on the back of some great speed work training with some of our London Marathon trainees Liz Woodfield in 17th with 1:31:50

Numerous Harriers also took the opportunity to test the legs and break off from tough London Marathon training schedules

Paul Crowther 1:27:36, John Field 1:35:41 – PB ,Matthew Rose 1:36:26, Rowan Eastwood 1:57:08, Angela Currid 1:57:45 and delightfully bringing the club home Diane Kolat 2:08:53 - PB

Other landmarks on the day included a best since 2010 for Maz Khoueiry 1:29:48, a quick with the hope for more to come in 2012 for John Philpott 3rd Vet 55 in 1:30:41, A PB for Adrian Smith who is reaping the benefits of training with London bound Lorraine in a fantastic 1:46:04, and a 3rd Vet 70 place for the ever consistent Tim Cock in 1:56:24.

Here are the times for all our Harriers not mentioned above.

Jonny McLean 1:26:19, John Levick 1:26:49, Eric Paxman 1:28:43, David Roberts 1:31:32, Ian Goulding 1:32:02, Dave Shepherd 1:33:06, Helen Standing 1:34:57, David Drake 1:38:54, Steven Handley 1:50:11, Bill Hunter 1:52:27 and Jason Haigh 1:54:12.

It was great to see so many amber vests representing the club and with the usual band of cheering supporters making the trip to see some great performances of which the whole club should be proud of.
