Senior Fell Championship - Nov 2015

Update & current standings

The Denis Stitt race saw a great turnout of 22 Harriers, with an encouraging mix of new & slightly older faces! Chris Law (U18) maintained this summer’s excellent form, winning the race in a decent time of 30.49, ahead of Jonny McLean & elder brother Joe, whilst for the Ladies, Helen Berry continues to dominate, finishing 7th overall & 1st lady in 33.27, just 12 seconds outside the current record set by Katie Walshaw in 2010. Lots of prizes were shared out amongst the Harriers, but special mention for Clark Hind, Craig Noble, Juan Biurrun, Jennifer Stott, Debbie Beck & Alison Smith, who were all venturing out on the fells for the first time. Here’s to plenty more visits!

A few weeks later, it was the final English Championship event, the Guisborough 3 Tops race in the Cleveland Hills. Unfortunately, injury & absence meant only a select few made the start line. Helen Berry finished 47th overall, 2nd lady & 1st FV40 in 1.18.29, followed by Andy Hauser 111th overall in 1.30.47, Phil Hobbs 157th in 1.38.28 & Ruby Sykes 195th & 5th GU20 in 1.48.19.

With only 2 races left in the championship, it’s very tight at the top of the men’s table. To count, everyone must complete 7 races, including 2 of each length (Short, Medium & Long) & so far only Phil Hobbs & John Ewart have qualified. Dan Shaw & Chris Beadle have both completed 7 races, but haven’t met the criteria yet & Bill Hunter needs one more race for his 7, so all of you need to get back out there! For the ladies, only Helen Berry will be able to complete the required 7 races, but her work isn’t done yet either!

Full results

Next up is the Roaches race near Leek on Sunday 8th November, where the course record is still held by John Taylor, one of our most talented past athletes who tragically died in 2002 from a rare heart condition, just 33 years of age. The final race is over in the Peak District, the Litton Christmas Cracker on Sunday 13th December, which should be a good warm-up for the Tinker Cup!

See you on a hill sometime.
