Update & current standings

After two of the toughest races in this year’s Championship, the tables are taking shape. With half the club helping out, we just had 6 runners at Holme Moss, with the result of the day being Helen Berry finishing 6th overall in a new Ladies record time of 2.56.57. And injury & absence meant only 2 die-hards made the trip to the Lakes for last Saturday’s 16.5 mile, 6500 feet Borrowdale race, with Dan Shaw knocking chunks off his PB to finish 96th overall in 4.03.20 & Phil Hobbs beating the cut-offs to finish in 4.57.54 at his first attempt.

It’s still pretty tight at the top of the men’s table, but Dan Shaw has taken advantage of John Ewart’s absence to stake a real claim for this year’s title, with a good lead of 15 points over John, Phil Hobbs & Chris Beadle. For the ladies, Helen Berry will need to ensure she fits in another 3 races to qualify, as it is unlikely anyone else will be able to catch her!

Next up is our own Denis Stitt race on Thursday 13th August. It’s a testing little race, but a good introduction to fell running, as it’s not too technical & you shouldn’t get lost! If you’re not helping, then give it a try.

See you on a hill sometime.

Phil Hobbs
