26th June, Update & current standings

May & June was pretty busy with 3 English Junior Championship events, varying from the Pennine bogs of Coiners, via the limestone Dales scenery of Malham to low cloud once again at the Turner Uphill races in the Duddon Valley. One year, we will see the top of Brown Pike!! This means we are now 9 races into the 12 race series and 43 juniors have taken part so far, with 18 having completed at least 3 races – a great effort.

With the best 5 races over the series to count, the tables are currently showing the leaders as Henry Parkin (U10), George Hobbs (U14), Annie Stone (GU14), Harry Shelbourne (U16), Lizzie Deacon (GU16) & Chris Law (U18). However, with 3 races still to go, there’s time for some challenges to be mounted!

It has been great to see so many juniors representing the club, particularly at the English Championship events, where the races at Malham & Turner Uphill rounded off a very successful series for Holmfirth. We finished joint 2nd overall in the Club table, which was a great effort in an increasingly competitive & popular Championship. Individually, we had further success with Chris Law 2nd U18 & Seth Waterman 3rd U18 and top 15 finishes for Annie Stone (GU14), Lucy Byram (GU16) & Harry Shelbourne (U16), as well as race wins for Chris Law, Lewis Byram, Seth Waterman & Lucy Byram.

Next up is Widdop on Wednesday 15th July, a new venue for the Championship on what will hopefully be a pleasant midweek trip to the Calder Valley, followed by a return to the Burnsall Classic on Saturday 22nd August. Hope to see plenty of you there.
