Junior Fell Championship update & Final standings

There’s one thing you can say about our juniors & that’s they don’t seem to notice the weather (unlike their parents!) In a year of extremes, they turned out in force at a number of the races & overall, nearly 40 took part in the 11 race series, with over 25 competing in at least 3 races. It was great to see so many Holmfirth vests at races near and far, with the day out on the bus to Church Stretton being particularly memorable! Special mention for the coaching team & to all the parents who supported & ferried their athletes – hope you enjoyed it!

The final placings are as follows:

  • U10 Girls – 1st Amelie Stewart.
  • U12 Girls – 1st Sunnivah Waterman, 2nd Millie Stewart & 3rd Alice Shelbourne.
  • U12 Boys – 1st Ollie Rees, 2nd Callum Durrans & 3rd George Hobbs.
  • U14 Girls – 1st Genevieve Durrans, 2nd Lucy Byram & 3rd Erica Byram.
  • U14 Boys – 1st Nicky Farquhar & 2nd Harry Shelbourne.
  • U16 Boys – 1st Lewis Byram, 2nd Chris Law & 3rd Eddie Hinchliffe.
  • There were some great performances throughout the year, particularly in the English Championship where the team narrowly missed out on top spot, finishing 2nd overall by just 3 points from Blackburn Harriers. Individually, Sunni Waterman won the GU12’s, Ollie Rees was 4th U12, Lucy Byram was 2nd GU14, with Erica Byram 3rd GU14 & Lewis Byram won the U16’s. This success was repeated at the Yorkshire Championships, where Callum Durrans won the U12’s, Sunni Waterman was 3rd GU12, Erica Byram was 2nd GU14, Lucy Byram was 3rd GU14, Lewis Byram was 1st U16 & Seth Waterman was 3rd U16.

Looking ahead to 2014, the format of the competition will stay the same, with the best 5 races from 12 to count. This should hopefully ensure once again that there are fewer clashes with triathlons etc & there are plenty of races for everyone to get their teeth into! Again, I have chosen all the English Championship races, which this time will include a race hosted by Holmfirth at West Nab in Meltham at the end of May - something we haven’t done since 2003.

The calendar for 2014 will be published in the next day or so, but in the meantime, the first race will be an old favourite - the Stanbury Splash Rat Runs on Sunday 19th January – see you there!

2013 – HHAC Junior Fell Championship – Races

As with last year, the Championship is split by age category, U10, U12, U14, U16 & U18, with a separate competition for boys & girls. Points are awarded based on placings in each race, with the first Harrier home gaining a maximum 15 points, followed by 13, 12, 11 & so on for each subsequent finisher. The Championship has been extended to 12 races, but will still be awarded based on the best 5 results for each junior athlete.
