Phil HobbsFell Championship update & Final standings

The Wadsworth Half Trog was at its boggy best the other weekend to bring this year’s Championship to a muddy end! For the men, nearly 40 took part throughout the year, with 14 completing at least 3 races, but dare I say it, it is your Fell Captain Phil Hobbs who has finally triumphed & topped the Championship table on 162 points! Joint second, on 159 points, are last year’s winner Jim Durrans & Dave Knight, who deserves a special mention having completed all 15 of the races on offer. Also not far behind was Ian Arnold, who was the only other person to complete the required 7 races.

For the ladies, although 16 took part during the year, injury & other absences meant only Helen Berry completed the necessary 7 races to qualify, so many congratulations to her on retaining her title, scoring a maximum 105 points. With Dave Knight completing all 15 races, no-one was going to worry him as he romped home to claim the All-to-Count title, scoring 425 points, ahead of Phil Hobbs & Helen Berry.

Looking ahead to 2013, I have endeavoured wherever possible to avoid any clashes with Road Relays, Cross Country events, Vets Grand Prix races etc & have also tried to tie in races with the juniors so that we have a significant Harriers presence at as many events as possible.

The format will be the same as this year - 15 races to choose from, with 7 races to be completed (including 1 of each length). There are some new races and some old favourites & I have included 4 of the English Championship races, one of which doubles up as the Yorkshire Championship race at Buckden Pike, with its steepling final descent - enjoy!
