National Young Athlete Road Relays Sutton Park Birmingham Saturday 14th April.

On Sunday 14th April 7 teams of young athletes from Holmfrith travalled to Birmingham to take part in the young athlete Road Relays. Running in teams of 3 the youngsters run over a slightly shorter course than their senior counterparts who had run the day before. The event attracts all the top club teams from around the country.

Top Harrier team performance came from the U15 girl trio of Olivia Sykes, Lucy Byram and Erica Byram. Olivia had a superb run on first leg staying in contention with the leaders and handing on to Lucy in a magnificent 4th position in a time of 14.23. Lucy ran strongly dropping only 3 places to hand on to sister Erica in 7th in a time of 15.22. This was the girls’ final finishing position with Erica completing her lap in 15.01. Olivia’s time was good enough to put her just inside the top ten fastest times of the day.

Lewis Byram still relishing his National duathlon title from the weekend previously anchored the U15 boys A team. The team was lead off by Aaron Kettlewell who enjoyed a real battle on leg one with Lewis Barthlolmew running leg 1 for the B team. Aaron managed to shake Lewis off in the closing stages to come home in 27th place in 14.01 with Lewis in 14th place in 14.12. George Green running on second leg moved the A team up to 22nd place his time 14.02. Lewis Byram completed the team finishing in 13th place overall his time of 12.54 the 14th fastest of the day. The B team with Lavell Pierrre (14.36) and Andrew Farquhar (15.11) on legs 2 and 3 finished a very creditable 28th place.
