ERRA National Road Relays, Sat 14 April 2012
Category: Ladies Published Date Hits: 715
Well done to our ladies who travelled down to Sutton Park on Saturday for the English National Road Relays, some for their first time in a road relay for the club. First off for the Holmfirth ladies was Katie Walshaw who ran a PB on this course, knocking 30 seconds of her previous best time (which itself was a 30 second improvement on 2010!). Katie finished a fantastic 8th place in a field of 51 runners in 17:05 getting the team off to a great start. Kath Farquhar ran strongly throughout leg 2, to hand over in 14th position (18:30). Claire Leaver picked up one place to 13th with a time of 18:35 on leg 3. Cara Penfold had a great performance, improving on last year's time by over 30 seconds in 21:05 and handing over in 19th position. As the race develops the athletes become further spread out and the number of complete teams reduces, but the ladies continued to put in gutsy performances. Aideen Farrell did well on leg 5, in her first road relay for the club, to finish in 23rd position (21:15). Fran Whitworth, also making her debut for the road relay team, ran well on the final leg in 21:16 bringing the team home in 23rd position in an overall time of 1:57:46. The event was won by Aldershot, Farnham & District in a time of 1:36:30, who also claimed the fastest time of the day with GB international Charlotte Purdue in 15:29.
