Holmfirth Vets at Recent YVAA Multi-terrain GP’s

Holmfirth Vets have recently taken part in 3 more YVAA multi-terrain GP’s. On the 24th May the race was at West Park, north Leeds. This was a totally off road course on grass fields and woodland paths. With just a small number of inclines this is another fairly flat course. First (and only) Holmfirth female home was Rosemary Baker in 24th and 1st F55 in 40:24. In the men’s race Dave Watson was 2nd and 1st M45 in 28:50 followed by 37th Chris Beadle M45, 34:58; 41st Steve Berridge M55, 35:28; 67th Steve Beardsell 1st M65, 39:01; 69th Ian Goulding M50, 39:11; 116th Neil Midgley M65, 43:53;137th Richard Smith M65, 47:34; 138th Bill Hunter M65,47:58 and 140th Paul Winn M60, 49:20.

One week later the race was from Kirkstall Abbey. This race has two longish road stretches as well as the usual off road paths. Again we were very short of female runners with first home this time 23rd Jean Shotter 3rd F50, 46:22 followed by 95th Liz Yewlett F60, 64:06. First man home was 39th Andy Hauser 2nd M60, 41:59 then 48th Steve Beardsell 1st M65, 42:53; 72nd Kevin Yewlett M60, 45:23; 101st Neil Midgley M65, 49:11;119th Richard Smith M65, 52:01and124th Paul Winn M60, 53:59.

On June 5th the 4th Race in the series took place at Mulgrave Castle, Lythe, near Whitby. This is the second year for this event and being on the far north east of the county and hence a long way to travel it does not get the 200+ entrants of most Bradford / Leeds events. Nevertheless 128 vets from 24 Yorkshire clubs took part. First home for Holmfirth was 17th Chris Beadle M45 then 30th Andy Hauser 3rd M60; 39th Steve Beardsell 1st M65; 55th Kevin Yewlett M65; 62nd Rob Kersey M65; 67th Jean Shotter F50; 73rd Rosemary Baker1st F55; 90th Neil Midgley M65;112th Tim Cock 2nd M70 and 123rd Liz Yewlett F60. As yet no times are available but they will be on the YVAA website when John returns from holiday.

On Thursday 9th just 3 Holmfirth runners travelled to Howarth for the tough Bronte 5 (mile) race. This is a two lap race with some tough climbs but a long, fast, downhill finish. Unfortunately Dave Watson M45 had to pull out on the first lap with a foot injury so first home was Rob Kersey running his first road race, since returning to training the previous week, after 3 months out with injury. Struggling with the hills, particularly on the first lap, he ran strongly over the last 2 miles to come in 2nd M65 in 38:16. Tim Cock ran his usual solid race finishing 3rd M70 in 47:51
