Happy Ladies team

The F35+ team was our most inexperienced but everyone gave their utmost, to produce some good personal times. First off was Debbie Beck who had dropped down an age group from F45 to F35, Debbie completed the 3 miles in 29th in 24:26. Next off was Diane Lee picking up 4 places in 23:20, followed by Jen Wolstenholme who also picked up 4 places in 21:02. Emma Serjeant ran the last leg and held on to 21st place in 21:55. Eventually the team were upgraded to 20th due to a disqualification.

The F45+ team of 3 had a brilliant run. Maggie Sykes, getting back to form after a long layoff came in 3rd on the 1st leg in 18:51, which was the 3rd fastest time of the day. Helen Pettit on leg 2 ran an excellent 20:41 and lost just 1 place (to the 4th fastest F45 runner) and she handed on to Jean Shotter, better known for her fell running exploits but always willing to turn out for the club, who ran 22:10 holding on to 4th place out of 23 teams.

Liz and Diane taking it easy after their races

The F55+ plus team was potentially our strongest but with Lesley Ewart’s ankle injury keeping her out we were only able to complete a team thanks to the brave decision of Liz Yewlett to run. Liz would be the first to admit she is not the fastest of runners and was worried about “letting the team down” which in reality was rubbish of course, in fact she had “saved the team”, since without her there would have been no team. In the event Rosemary Baker ran the first leg and came home 5th in 22:14, followed by Yvette Arthur who picked up one place finishing 4th in 23:02. Liz Yewlett battled all the way to the finish only dropping 2 places to finish 6th in 29:18.

The men’s M55+ and 65+ started at 12.15pm so the women were able to spectate and support just as the men had done for their races. This always adds to the atmosphere of the event with good vantage points all around the course

Rob M65 240

Rob M65, leg 3

For the M55 we were missing club men’s captain, John Ewart but Rick South stepped in and ran leg 1 coming home 22nd in 19:15, Andy Hauser on leg 2 ran a solid 20:48 but still dropped 4 places to 26th and Kevin Yewlett, at the top of the age group, lost just one place to finish 27th in 21:51. To give an indication as to the calibre of runner in this race the top 10 times for M55+ runners were between 16:28 and 17:34.

Andy M55 240

The M65+ team were truly “old crocs” with Rob not having run properly since February with an ankle (Achilles) problem and Phil tweaking his calf on the club run on the previous Thursday. Only Steve Beardsell was fit so he went off first and ran an excellent 20:14 in 6th and only 4 seconds behind 4th. A very nervous Phil Senior ran the second leg with a solid 24:13 coming in 11th and leaving Rob to run the last leg in 21:30 finishing 8th team.
