Barnbow fields, 7th July 2015

On Tuesday evening, the same night as the club 10, 15 Holmfirth Harriers travelled to Barnbow Fields, near Crossgates, Leeds for the latest round in the YVAA Multi-terrain race series. Although showery throughout the day and wet both before and after the race we were blessed by a mild dry evening with a refreshing breeze. Only the occasional puddle told of the heavy rain earlier in the day, the dry ground having absorbed most of it, leaving a good running surface.

The course takes in fields, farm tracks and woodland and while not as testing as some, is still undulating! With the absence of Dave Watson this year due to work commitments, Gavin Mulholland of Stainland remains largely unchallenged at the front of the race but new second claim Holmfirth Harrier Mike Fanning is proving what an excellent recruit he is, following up his 3rd at the last race, with a 2nd place, 1st M45 on this occasion, finishing in 30:50 next came John Ewart 20th, 2nd M55, 34:17 and he was followed by Gary Graham 23rd, M45, 34:41; Chris Beadle 33rd, M45, 35:34; Andy Hauser 43rd, M55, 36:37; Rob Kersey 64th, M60, 38:12; Debbie Hall 68th,4th lady, 3rd F35, 38:40; Matthew Rose 80th, M40, 39:49; Ian Goulding 96th, M50, 40:57; Rosemary Baker 104th, 1st F55, 41:14; Jean Shotter 120th, 3rd F50, 42:46; Neil Midgley 126th, M65, 43:35; Paul Winn 148th, M60, 45:12; Bill Hunter 156th, M65, 45:36 and Tim Cock 172nd, 2nd M70, 47:07.

This was another excellent turnout especially so with the Club 10 unfortunately falling on the same night.

A total of 231 runners from 27 clubs took part. The race was hosted by St Theresa’s AC and thanks to them for another well organised event and for the refreshments after the race.

With 3 races left and plenty of chances to go up (or down) the rankings a number of Holmfirth runners are still in with a chance of age group trophies for the series. At the moment we have:

F35     Debbie Hall 1st

F50     Jean Shotter 1st and Rosemary Baker 2nd

M55    John Ewart 2nd and Andy Hauser 3rd
