Race Report, Sunday 7th June 2015, Whitby

Eleven Holmfirth Harriers vets made the trip to Lythe, near Whitby for the first running of The Mulgrave Castle YVAA Multi-terrain GP race on Sunday. This race, hosted by Loftus and Whitby AC was the first venture to the north east Yorkshire coast for a GP race and the furthest to travel for the mass of members in the Leeds / Bradford area but still got about 120 entries. It could be part of a great day out or weekend away with the family as beautiful beaches and good walking and cycling country is all around. On a sunny day, though with a cold breeze, runners made their way from the Lythe sports and social club to the Mulgrave Castle Estate for what must be our most picturesque race start and course. Starting with a long descent the 10K race then undulates through the valley and includes a ford across a stream, where trying to overtake someone, I crashed out full length, knocking the wind out of me and bashing my knee. Mind you the soaking in cold water numbed the pain a bit! After a few minutes of hobbling I gradually got going again on this tough course before shuffling up the stiff climb to the finish.

As usual several Holmfirth runners were awarded top three age group prizes and both runners and supporters had a good time.
