YVAA Awards

Don’t forget to let me know your race results so far this year. For 1. and 2. Below I only need details of which races you have run (for 1 include park runs). For 3 the Age Graded Award I need race, time, distance, and your age in years at time of race.

Results So Far

  1. Vet of the Year: As far as I am aware, as of 23rd February, we have had 72 veteran members competing this year (47 men and 25 women) doing 136 runs. Paul Winn and Tim Cock are leading the way with 5 events each. If you have raced (or helped) in any event that is not one of the club counters or otherwise mentioned in the above award then let me know the details.

  2. YVAA Vet of the Year. No races yet completed. First race 15th March YVAA 20 mile at Cleckheaton, followed by Thirsk 10 and then the 1st Multi-terrain GP from Neiley.

  3. Age Graded Female and Male Champs. Remember there are 11 races to be completed in the various categories to be eligible for this Award so the winners will certainly be worthy Vets Champions and of course the best scoring runners may not do enough races. But the best age graded results so far have been 80.24% by Helen Berry and 83.29% by Dave Watson. Eight women and eleven men have scored over 70%.

Liversedge Half Marathon, 15th February

This is a tough but well organised friendly race and well worth having a go at next year. About 450 runners and usually fills before the day so best to enter early. They allow very slow runners to start early so need to worry about keeping the marshals out. This year there were seven of us made the start line and some excellent performances all round on the day. If you haven’t seen it (why not?) a report is on the website at www.holmfirthharriers.com

English Cross Country Championships at Parliament Hill Fields, London, 21st February

I’m sure there will be a report of the weekend in the Cross Country section on the website (Editor: here it is!) but some great runs from Helen Berry, Lesley Ewart, Helen Pettit, Dave Turnball, John Ewart and Andy Hauser. Apologies if I missed some others but results can’t be interrogated so just have to plough through long lists. Hopefully will be available in CC report. Just have to mention a brilliant 20th place for Helen Berry although in terms of age grading she was just pipped by F60 Lesley Ewart at just over 76%! For the men John Ewart and Dave Turnball both scored over 70%. Well done to all.

Huddersfield 10K, 22nd February

Again look out for full report on Road Section but a little Vets Data: 23 vets took part, 7 women and 16 men. Several names new to me so I’ll try and add them to the Vets email list. If you are not getting emails about events let me know and I’ll put you on the list.

Notable placing’s included Jen Wolstenholme, 4th F35; Dinah Coggon, 5th F40; Chris Beadle, 5th M45; John Levick 4th, M50; Kevin Yewlett, 3rd M60 and Tim Cock, 2nd M70. Well done to all for completing this tough 10K

Great North West Half Marathon, 22nd February

As far as I am aware just two Harriers Vets took part in this race, both running PB’s. Mark Owen M35 ran 1:42:38 an 11 minute improvement on his previous best and Caroline Thomas F40 ran 2:25:34, improving her PB by a minute. Well done to both. I believe Mark is going to do a report for the website.

Weekend runs with the “Philpott Group” have been interrupted by racing of late but will hopefully get back on track in March. Don’t forget let me know what you’re doing there may be others out there that would like to join you.

Recognise the view?

Where was this taken from? Answer: path above Blackpool Bridge last summer, yes its cotton grass not snow!

What about these steps anyone recognise them? Clue: better to tackle before the pub than after!

Do you have a favourite run or view that you are prepared to let others in on? If so send me a photo and / or map of the route with a brief description of why you like it and I’ll put it in a future issue of Vets News.

That’s all for this month, don’t forget to keep me up to date with your racing and please get involved in the two club organised events in March.
