YVAA CC Championships, Nunroyd Park

September 28th 2014, at Nunroyd Park

On Sunday 22 Harriers turned out for the 2014 YVAA Cross Country Championships at Nunroyd Park, Yeadon. This was slightly down on past years but was largely due to a clash with the Netherthong 10K and some of the usual contenders training for the Chester Marathon next week.

Warming up ahead of Race #1

Once again the women showed their strength in depth winning both team competitions for which we entered teams and also winning a number of individual medals.

The men’s teams were depleted to a greater extent and always have stiff competion from the likes of Rotherham, Hallamshire, Barnsley, Sheffield and Wetherby even when at full strength.
Hopefully changing the dates to September when conditions are still good underfoot may encourage some more of our younger Vets to have a go at Cross Country.

In Race 1(Women and M70+ men), Helen Berry continued her excellent form of late by storming away from the field to win the race (and the F40 cat.) outright by some 30 seconds. She was followed home by Maggie Sykes in 3rd, 2nd M45; Helen Fines,6th, 3rd F40; Kath Farquhar 12th, 3rd F45; Debbie Hall 24th 7th F35; Val Battye 29th, 3rd F55; Jean Shotter 38th, 4th F50; Bill Wade 51st, 6th M70; Alison Smith 53rd, 13 F35; Tim Cock 65th, 7th M70 and Norman Berry 89th, 9th M70.

In team terms we were 1st F35 – 44 team, 1st F45 – 54 team and also 1st F35 – 44 All to Count team.  Bill, Tim and Norman were also 1st M70 team .

In Race 2 (M50 – 69 men) Mark Law ran strongly to finish a very creditable 12th and 8th M50; Andy Hauser 24th,7th M55; Rob Kersey 35th, 5th M60; Kevin Yewlett 43rd, 9th M60; Phil Senior 56th, 13th M60; Martin Seddon 61st, 16th M60; Bill Hunter 63rd, 8th M65 and Roger Bradley 64th, 9th M65.  These results enabled the M60 – 69 team to take the silver medals and also to win the All to Count trophy.

In Race 3 (M35 – 49 men) we only managed 4 competitors and no complete teams but those that ran still gave it there all to represent the club. Dan Shaw was 1st back in 20th, 6th M35 followed by Garreth Humphries 24th, 12th M40; Gary Graham 32nd, 9th M45 and Juan Biurrun 50th, 16th M35.

Many thanks to all that ran whether 1st or "further back" all represented the club and helped to “fly the flag”!

Results: Men 35-49, men 50-69 and women 35-70
