YVAA GP 7, Knavesmire and 8, Bingley

The summer months continue to be a busy time for Veteran athletes with three more races in the YVAA multi-terrain series in August. On the 6th it was the turn of Knavesmire Harriers to host an event from Knavesmire Racecourse. This is the flattest of all the GP’s following cycle paths and the path along the river Ouse with just short stretches on quiet roads. Being flat does not mean it is any easier as the pace is faster and there are no downhill sections on which you can relax and get your breath back!

Dave Watson suffered one of his few defeats this year losing out to M35 Jonathan Wills of Leeds City by 13 seconds but was still almost 1min 30 seconds ahead of his usual adversary, Gavin Mulholland of Stainland.

David Roberts 3rd M50 continued his strong form this year in 24th place and was followed by Rob Kersey 2nd M60, 61st; Lesley Ewart 2nd F55, 79th (beaten by the exceptional Sue Becconsall of Bingley who finished 37th overall); Rosemary Baker F50, 143rd; Neil Midgley M60, 174th; Paul Winn M60, 178th; Tim Cock M70, 193rd and Den Kersey F60 235th.

The following week Bingley Harriers hosted a very different race. Starting with a steep grassy hill and with rough tracks, mud and lots of ups and downs this was anything but fast and flat. Only 7 Harriers made the trip but were rewarded by a brief interlude in the heavy rain that occurred before and after the race. Dave Watson resumed his winning ways with David Roberts once again being 2nd Holmfirth counter in 15th place and 3rd M50 and was followed by Rob Kersey M60, 66th; Lesley Ewart 1st 55, 80th; Bill Hunter M65, 144th; Paul Winn M60, 140th and Tim Cock 3rd M70, 169th.
