YVAA GP 5, West Vale and GP 6, Crossgates

This is the busiest time of year for the Vets’ GP races with 5 over the July / August period.

The West vale event hosted by Stainland is a tough race with steepish climbs and some rough paths meaning eyes need to be glued to the ground for much of the race. The small contingent of Holmfirth Harriers were led home by Dave Watson 2nd and 2nd M40 who was beaten by Gavin Mulholland who excels on the rough stuff. Next came David Roberts 16th, 1st M50; John Ewart 17th, 3rd M55; Margaret Sykes 23rd, 2nd lady and 1st F45; Rob Kersey 41st, 1st M60; Lesley Ewart 54th, 1st F55; Rosemary Baker 98th, 3rd F50; Tim Cock 116th, 2nd M70 and Den Kersey 138th, 2nd F60.

The Crossgates race, hosted by St. Theresa’s is a very different affair being run on gently undulating field and woodland paths with a section on an old railway line making for much easier running and the cooler conditions were a welcome change from the recent heat. Dave reasserted his domination of the series by winning by nearly 1 ½ minutes over Gavin.

Dave Roberts was again our next finisher in 19th just missing out on 3rd M50. He was followed by Rob Kersey 65th, 1st M60; Debbie Hall 72nd, 2nd F35; Lesley Ewart 79th, 1st F55; Julio D’Escrivan M50, 119th; Neil Midgley M60,149th; Rosemary Baker F50,154th; Paul Winn M60, 172nd;Tim Cock 189th, 3rd M70 and Den Kersey F60, 232nd.

The next race is at Knavesmire, York on the 6th August followed by Bingley on the 12th and West Park, Leeds on the 19th. Details will be on the website www.yvaa.com
