Rowena France (aged 16 years) was a former pupil of Holmfirth High School and had recently moved to Greenhead College to study Art, English literature, French and Italian. She had been a Harriers member since the age of 8 and was a talented athlete and a very good triathlete.
Rowena was a popular member of the club and enjoyed great success in 2007 when she won all but one race in the Yorkshire & Humberside League and was selected to represent Yorkshire at the Triathlon Inter-Regional Championships in Glasgow. In 2008 she won selection to represent West Yorkshire Schools' at the English Schools Cross Country Championships in Liverpool and won representative honours with Kirklees in a 1,000 metres race at the Citta di Majano Trophy event in Italy. Rowena also had another successful year in the triathlon and represented Yorkshire at the Inter -Regional Championships in Aldershot.
Her death was a huge shock to her many friends and our thoughts are always with her Mum, Dad (Jacqueline and Andy) and younger sister Alex, all fellow Harriers.
Rowena is sadly missed and remembered by all her friends at Holmfirth Harriers.
