PARLAUF Heats 2012

The heats of the Parlauf championship took place on Tuesday 21st of June. Despite the heats having to be postponed last month and clashing with the England Euro 2012 match a record entry of 132 athletes, young and old took to the start line. The 66 pairs were divided up into 6 heats which meant that some of the hardest workers on the night were the lap scorers. The number of teams ensured that each race was keenly contested none more so than in the first heat where Max Kaye failed by 2 feet to overhaul Adrian Smith as the went, they can however renew rivalry next week as both qualified for the finals. Although experience can be vital it is not essential as a number of pairs comprised of two young athletes and a number of these have made it through to next weeks final, with Lilly Barr and Archie Hall having the youngest combined age and Lewis Byram and Amy Tyler having recorded the furthest distance. With all ten pairs that qualified being within 3/4 of a lap in distance covered the final should turn out to be extremely exciting. The race starts at 7.45pm so everyone can have a run and then support the runners as they compete in the tough ten minute relay.
